Day One Journal: Private Diary App Reviews

good app, but super slow

Since I really like the app I started using it for 1.5 years now with 115MB of docs/data already. Sometimes typing is impossible since super slow. Typing a word results in individual letters appearing one by one super slowly. It can take minutes for a short sentence to show. Using the app on my iPhone 6 plus and iPad mini (super slow). I also purchased the macOS app for my iMac and it works fine over there.

Good App, but....

The app would be a lot better if we could include more than 10 pictures and including videos wouldnt be a bad idea either. But overall, its a decent journal.

Easy journal entry with your photos

If you like journaling, writing notes, putting photos with them on a specific day, this is for you. You can create multiple journals for a trip or a grand child or... it syncs to your iPhone so you can continue adding notes to that entry begun on iPad. It also automatically chronicles the place, time and weather of your entry. Been using for over a year. I had journaled for years on a word doc. But wanted something I could easily move photos to. This will do it!

Apple pencil support?

This would be awesome

Best journal Out there

I love this app because I can write in it while Im on the go and records my location, weather, pictures and music to reflect my day, experiences and mood. And it is everyday backed up on my iCloud and eliminates the concern of loosing my information.

LOVE the new 2.0

I have used DayOne for a number of years, and have always liked it, but this new version is the complete package! Not only didnt bring all of the best features from the original version, but now to be able to have multiple journals, multiple photos, and the ability to print into a book…it is EVERYthing I have hoped for in a journaling app. Thank you DayOne!

Love this app!

I used to be a journal writer. Then Life happened and I quit finding time to write. It is so nice to use my pictures to help recall my day. I also dont have as much to remember like I did when I was writing weekly Journal entries. It only allows one picture. But I use Layout an app that allows the user to create collages of their pictures and it works great with Day One. You can also post date entries using the date of the photo as your entry by choosing that option when it automatically asks you after selecting your photo.

Not Reliable

The app randomly decides to display small white boxes where photos are suppose to be in a post, even though they show up in the thumbnails. This needs to be fixed now. I bought this app so I can keep a journal of my photos, not so I can keep adding the same entry over and over again to finally get it to work. Update: 3 months later and this is still happening. Ridiculous.

Best Journal App for iPhone

I used to use Journey for Android and really loved it. I was upset when I found out they dont make an iPhone app and went in search of something as good or better. Ill say, this is hands down the best journaling experience Ive had. My therapist is glad to see me journaling regularly, and tagging topics and people makes it so easy to see a slice of my day to day life and assess it. I have different journals for "Inspiration", "Gratitude", and a place for venting and negative feelings so I can gain some insight and inspiration on a bad day but still have an outlet. Ive already recommended this to friends and my therapist might start recommending it also. Its beautiful, intuitively laid out, and easy to use even though theres plenty of features to make it mine. So glad I found this!

Priceless

This is one of the best purchases Ive ever made. A lot of people are upset and writing poor reviews because of the cost of this app and so subscription service, but its a huge value! For 34.99 a year, which is the cost of a nice dinner or a few drinks, youll have an incredible journal app that can sync across devices, supports some really cool IFTTT triggers, records music listened to, locations, can store up to 30 photos, and much more. I cant express how valuable this app is. I can look back on the last 4 years of my life and remember moments and memories that Ive long forgotten. My journal is now an extension of my memory, allowing me to relive moments that few people could be expect to hold onto.

Devastating crash

Its hard to give this app 2 stars, because the concept is amazing. And actually the design is lovely, too, but I should have known better than to invest so much of my life into technology. I downloaded this app in 2014 I believe, because I wanted to start journaling and typing is faster than writing. It worked super well and was very convenient, as it saved my work across many devices. Until 2015 rolled around and one day I opened up the app, I think it crashed or I had updated it or something but an entire years worth of my journal entries had disappeared, across all devices. Customer support tried to help but nothing worked. Im writing this review now because I havent touched the app in almost two years for fear of my other entries disappearing too. Ever since then Ive been journaling by hand. Yes, this is a bad review because of one bad experience but honestly this could happen to anyone and if you ask me, youre better off journaling by hand. This app is probably better for writings/thoughts that arent crucial.

Crashes too often

I paid the anual subscription but it seems its no use when the app crashes a lot. I once "finished" an entry w/ over 2k words and nothing saved, all gone b/c of an apparent crash. There have been other minor instances where I selected my photos (Im meticulous so it takes a while) & then when you hit "done" it just crashes. Very disappointing for my favorite journal app.

All that you wish to Journal & then more

This app is fantastic! Very well laid out. A ton of options without over complicating the UI I keep it on my homepage and no hesitation to buy it

Decent presentation for a journal

This app finally has me journaling. Its easy to use and lets you choose lots of data to put in automatically.

Beautiful design

Admittedly, i made a knee jerk review after they updated to the subscription model. After further research Ive come to the conclusion that dayone is still what Ive always enjoyed. I still have syncing capabilities as well as multiple journals. This app is awesome for keeping track of your memories and the interface leaves very little, if any, to be desired. This is the only thing that has peaked my interest in keeping track of what has happened in my life. I recommend this to anyone, especially now that they have a free option. Download it. Do it now. NOW!!

Day One **CLASSIC**

Yea so I downloaded version 2 because I caught the link in the classic app, only to find out that even though I purchased the now *classic* (???) app that I guess it will no longer be updated, even aesthetically wise because version *2* is out now. ? Anyway long story short I deleted version 2 so fast ? and now Im back to the good old *classic* (still funny). At least update the older version instead of abandoning those who have seen some worth in it and purchased it in the first place. I know everyone has rent to pay but dont be scum. Thats not cool. Hopefully the classic app will at least continue to work and wont suddenly start to "crash" ?. Honestly the old app is more aesthetically pleasing in terms of tone. The new one is almost too bright/garish/playschool-y which also doesnt make me want to tack on another subscription which Im sure nobody wants more of. 5 stars for classic! ?

Cornered

Let me say this is a beautiful App and the functionaltiy is all there! Over the years I have used this journal and it has been a great addition to my morning routine. However today I went to add two photos to my jouranl and it wouldnt allow me without a subscription. This was dissapointing. I cannot justify spending $1400 over 30 years just to upload multiple images to my journal @ 3.99 per month. I already pay apple money for a subscription and I had already invested $50 into this digital journal when it included icloud sync. -1 star for removing integration with iCloud -1 star for remonving integration with iCloud -1 star for removing integration with iCloud

Sleek, powerful, and a life saver!

The creators of this diary/journal app really have done a great job. With all its features its fun and powerful to keep a diary and in some cases when u cant remember details of things that happen the key words makes it easy to find all entries so I can find the exact one Im looking for and any related ones. Also they really keep up with updates.

Best app everrrr!!!

I have never been a journaler (not sure if thats even a word). However, I decided to give it a try and commit to writing in it everyday. I have been consistent for over 550 days now and am so proud! I especially love that you can also put 10 photos per day. And I love being able to tag each day with items because you can go back and search for things in your life that you may want to remember in general - like work outs, hair cuts, when to give your dog her flea meds etc! Anyway - I really dig this app. Thick girls about having a book printed but not sure how much itll cost with all of these days and photos. ;)

Used it since 2012 & still love it

Ive used this since 2012. I have tried and tested other things but I was come back to this because they made it so simple that I actually use it and want to use it.
