Day One Journal: Private Diary App Reviews

Nice app, I will never use

I used Dayone every day before Dayone2. I simply dont trust my personal data on "Dayone servers". If they bring back iCloud synchronization I would consider using this app again. I enjoyed the old version so much I bought the new version without reading the reviews. I suspect they will start charging for Dayone cloud storage at some point. I dont want to end up paying for another cloud account so I will never use this app. Guess I wasted my money on this one. Lesson learned.

Nope

I paid for this version because I received V1 for free. Thank you, that version ("classic") is awesome and I still use it every day. Wish this version wasnt so bad (no need to repeat other reviews).

No Dropbox / iCloud sync

The original Day One is a great app. With this new version, the devs eliminated the ability to sync with Dropbox and iCloud. Their own sync service has gone down multiple times (including "scheduled downtime") and as reported by others, the data is not stored in encrypted form on their servers. Avoid this "upgrade".

Great journaling app becomes better

Keeping a daily journal and referring back to it occasionally is a great way to keep perspective on how life is going. The ability to keep separate journals for different areas of life like work, hobbies, and personal make it even better.

Gets Better and Better

I love this app and cant say enough. It syncs nicely between my devices, and I like the option to create different journals. I keep a work day book and a personal book, and also a writing resources journal where I can drop pieces of research into a timeline for a project that I am working on.

No encryption, no iCloud

All you need to know about this beautiful journal app is that it totally lacks encrypted syncing, and doesnt support the iCloud service youre already paying for. A disastrous mass information leak waiting to happen. Im holding off on buying the OS X app until they convince me my data is secure.

iCloud sync

I downloaded this, reluctantly, and was disappointed to find youve removed iCloud sync. It worked so well, now your own sync service is constantly having issues. I trust my very personal journal entries to be stored on iCloud much more than on your own built servers. I refuse to use the app until iCloud sync is available again. Until then, classic is working well as it always has. And I dont have to fork over more money for an upgraded Mac app.

Best journal app

I love this app says its the original day one but the updates have been a little buggy. But thatll be fixed in time.

One of my new favorite apps

This is really a fantastic app. Since I purchased it, I look forward to using it as soon as I wake up. Im enjoying the fact that you can have several different journals. For example, I have a daily thoughts journal, and then I have a journal for writing down tidbits of knowledge and information that I come across throughout the day and want to remember. The format is easy to use, and the look aesthetically pleasing. I wish that I could give it more than five stars.

Got me into Journaling

I enjoy writing with DayOne, it has encouraged me to journal, which is something I could never get into. I really appreciate being able to go back in time and see where my life was at during different times. The app is easy and friendly. I have a personal Journal, one for my business (thats where my blog posts come from) and one for my unborn son. Ill write to him until he is grown then give it to him as he moves out on his own. The app is beautifully designed and has worked well for me.

Bring back multiple sync options

UPDATE: Its become rather obvious that the developer replaced the previously reliable Dropbox sync with his own wildly unreliable custom sync backend so that he can eventually charge users an ongoing subscription fee. Rather than being honest about this he continues to tout the new sync mechanism—a mechanism that, as of this writing, has been down for several days. PREVIOUSLY: Overall a great update and Im happy to support the developer but I think the removal of Dropbox sync is fishy. Forcing everyone onto a custom backend feels like a prelude to charging users a monthly subscription fee. I actually wouldnt have any issue with supporting the app on that basis, I just dont think the baked-in Day One sync is as robust or trustworthy as Dropbox. The developer claims users were experiencing data loss. Ive been using the app for over four years, all over the world, and have never once experienced this issue.

App is crash.

It is too long to load. I cant open app in my iPad. It doesnt appear anything.

❤❤❤Love

Great app. And you can use calendar view for a dont break the chain style motivation.

NICE APP BUT USE WITH CAUTION

This is a beautiful app. I really enjoy using it but I cant write as freely as I want because of the lack of top notch encryption. I dont want to entrust my private thoughts to the servers of this company considering they dont seem to see encryption as a priority. This app shouldnt have shipped without it. Two-factor authentication wouldnt be a bad idea either.

Best of them all

Tried them all. This is the gold standard

Great with minor items to quibble

DayOne in its current incarnation is a great app. The watch app is convenient but I do hope that theyve really got the "foreign characters on check in" resolved. And I find the entry of location info to be unintuitive, especially the apps refusal to allow me to put in a correct address (forcing "New York, NY" instead of the correct "Maspeth, NY" for an address I use frequently). Notwithstanding these nitpicks, I really like and recommend the app.

Sync.

Can not SYNC. this week ????

Wheres the refund button?

This is my first review because for the most part Apps and especially Apps upgrades work like theyre supposed to. Ive had Day One Classic for a long time and so purchased the upgrade without reading all the details. I expected the upgrade to be the same but better. Its not supposed to be an "upgrade" to malfunction. Keep your money. This app is missing what made it great. Pretty disappointed.

Sync Failure

Concerns regarding use of a proprietary cloud syncing appear to be genuine. Sync has not worked for several days now. For an app at this price point, this is unacceptable.

Internal server error

Pic hashed. Downloaded. Unable to log in, internal server error. Did they even QA this app?
