Day One Journal: Private Diary App Reviews

1863 add

The best journaling program.

I have been using Day One for over 3 years. Being able to read past journals has allowed me to see my growth and see patterns in my behavior. I enjoy taking time everyday to journal my thoughts and feelings.

Great update

Enjoying multiple journals. Not a fan of Dropbox & iCloud sync falling off the radar but the new sync service appears to be functioning as it should. Update 7-20-17 Not quite sure whats going on with the app lately. Locations were there then removed, now have to search manually. Pain. The new subscription yearly fee is ugly. Yes developers should be compensated but find a different way. Ive purchased every update since released. Now looking for other options.

This Works For Me

Gives me everything I need in a journal ... end of story.

Best Journal App. Period.

I was a huge fan of the previous version of this app, but now that it supports multiple photos per post, and the best feature of all: multiple Journals! My only complaints are: -No Dropbox or iCloud Sync. You MUST use their own sync service, which works great, but I dont like being forced into this. Although its finally encrypted now. -Cant turn off location embedding globally, or for a single post. And to remove one already added, you have to search for a location, then hit remove, which is a pain. You can disable the app location in your privacy settings, but you shouldnt have to do that. If they can just fix these things, its a top-notch app!

A Powerful Tool For Journaling

Well done Day One - I recommend this app to anyone looking for an easy to use journaling assist. Ive been using Day 1 for over a year, and thanks to this app, for the first time in my life Im writing on a consistent basis. Not only am I keeping a daily (almost everyday) record of thoughts, feelings, opinions and events, but Ive also developed additional journals to help track medical issues for my wife and one for me. I also have a journal for my fiction writing. The Search tool is very useful for going back and finding key thoughts or events and putting them in context with my timeline. I love the fact that Day 1 can add time, date, location and even weather conditions as a kind of digital footnote to my entries. Being able to add photos, web links, and other net based info, enriches the quality of my content. Im 63 and not as tech savvy as I used to be, but this was easy to learn on the fly.

If you like journalling already, this is the best app for journalling.

Its as simple as that. I wrote a short shell script for journaling to make sure I thought I found journaling compelling generally, and boy was I impressed when I upgraded from that to this. If you like journalling, this has got it. Youre done. Every feature, consistently updated, and synced to the cloud—I love it. Big fan. 5/5.

Treasures

Ive kept Day One since the first day of the first grand child and I will continue till I die. This diary chronicling a love story is the best of what I will be leaving them someday.

Helpful

I am a 75 year old stroke survivor. I just started three journals, one regular, one a dream journal, and one for wishes. Since starting the journals I find myself looking forward to writing and learning about day one. I does a lot of things, pictures, Facebook, twitter etc.

The Best

This, by far, is the best journaling app Ive come across. Ive become consistent with my journaling for the first time in my life. They have worked out the syncing issues theyve had. No doubt with me, one of the internets best apps.

Activity feeds works again!

Finally, the activity feed works again. Its my favorite feature. But I love Day One either way! I also love the "today in your life" feature, where it shows you what you wrote one, two or more years ago. I dont usually read past entries, but its nice to look back and see a snap shot of what my thoughts and my life were like then. Keep up the good work, guys!

Well Thought Out Way To Chronicle Your Life

For years Ive searched for a way to keep track of meaningful events, photos, YouTube videos and other thoughts and occurrences in my life. I tried several different journal possibilities. Each one for a short time. None of them really allowed me to keep track of all the things I wanted to remember. About a year and a half ago I started using Day One. It has grown with me. Photos and my own thoughts, of course, are a given in a journal app. But I can also put in YouTube videos just by copying the link and I can remember where I was and when it was and what the temperature was and other little parts of life. I adore this journal app!

Revised Review

I bitterly complained about losing functionality I had previously paid for when Day One transitioned to their new subscription plan. The update before last dropped me down to the "Basic" level, treating me as if I had never paid for the app. I had the same functionality as someone who has just downloaded the app for the first time and had not chosen to pay for any subscription. I was furious. With the latest update, I have been bumped up to a "Plus" level, and the previous functionality I had enjoyed was restored; therefore, I am revising my review. I love the app and its capabilities. I am positive there is no more professional, robust journaling app in the App Store. I am only giving it four stars, however, because I HATE subscription software. Hate it.

Da kann man sich nur anschliessen

... leider Abzocke. Nun Synct sich nichts mehr ohne Geld (and yes as an existing user of the app - which I just re-installed on the ipad when my pictures stopped showing - I am now stuck with some guys who lost the middle ground on their journey to higher revenues). Given high cost of change you may not get the full impact - but to all out there - look for an alternative.

Still the best.

Ive been waiting for this update for a long time, and it does not disappoint. This is the best way to keep a digital journal. There is an issue with performance, though, on older phones — particularly using accessibility settings. And I was fonder of the design before they started making tweaks. Some of the changes are good, but they hide many of the buttons behind un-obvious UI. I prefer the older design, but theres still nothing else like this on the App Store.

Subcription fee hangover

I love Day One and have used it for almost 5 years. It seems many of my favorite apps have started to push subscriptions. Over the course of 8-10 apps it starts to add up. Im afraid Im out. 5 star app. 1 star pay model

Love this app

I love this app, I use it every day. Multiple journals, IFTTT integration and a well thought out approach to getting ideas written down.

Best. Journaling. App. Ever.

I was lucky and got this app for free when it was promoted in the Apple Store but I can see why the app costs the amount it does. Its worth experiencing due to its simplicity and straightforward used interface. I dont review apps unless I am thoroughly content with the product so trust me on this - its an exceptional journaling app. I have had his app for 3 years and never deleted it once. It was that valuable to me.

The best journal app you ever need NOT!

"On this day doesnt show photos anymore" Ever since day one changes the subscription model, as an early adopter of the day one since 2011 it may seems inevitable.. giving early adopter a "plus" account. However any new features release would only be available to the premium user who subscribe to the new model. This makes early adopter unhappy and furious. Below are my review from 2011-2017 before the latest subscription model update. Finally the moment for multi photo entries! Day one 2.0 is amazing after a two years development from scratch. It feels sleek and snappy. Its really amazing! I have been using day one since it first launched in 2011 and this 2.0 will enhance my journal experience! Thumbs up day one team!

Love the app HATE the pricing model

Great app, like I love it. It is exactly what I need in my life right now. But I do not want to subscribe to get the premium features. I would pay money for it. Things is expensive and I bought that.

Best Journaling App

It has a great UI, its easy to use and convenient all of which makes keeping a journal a pleasurable experience. I would prefer they didnt move to a subscription model but Im will to support a good developer. Hoping they could deliver on the premium services to justify the costs.
