Day One Journal: Private Diary App Reviews

Been using Day One to journal for several years and found it easy to use. There are some nice new features like maps & allowing multiple photos. The new "looking back on this date" feature is nice, but I havent been able to figure out how to find it again if you dont look at it when it first comes up or to look for your other "on this date" events for any date. Not sure whats been fixed with latest update, but on this date still doesnt work quite right & I suddenly had problems syncing between iPhone, Mac & iPad. When I contacted Customer Service, they responded fairly quickly but did so via a notification from the app (as opposed to via email) & now I cant locate the response with link to info.

I am updating this from what I previously wrote below the line. All I can say is that I always wanted to keep a journal and never succeeded until I worked with Day One. I think, in the light of recent news reports, the concerns that others have raised about encryption are probably valid. I have felt about Day Ones security the way I feel about my bicycle chain, it stops people who wouldnt want to steal my info anyway. I live in a neighborhood where no one steals bikes. When it comes to information, Im not sure I live in a safe neighborhood anymore. _------------------------------------------ Although I use Day One almost daily for journaling, I also use it to compose Facebook posts, take notes for writing projects, or notes from presentations. I often share these notes with Evernote in order to keep and classify them more deeply. Day One and the Apple platform makes it easy to do this. Most important, of course, is the ease with which I can scroll back through my entries and begin to see patterns and growth. So it is a tool for the spirit as well as for the mind. The one feature that I had never expected to use, the ability to attach photos, is one of the features I now like best.

I had been searching for an app to log my thoughts when I found Day One. I have 10 journals with 10 different topics ranging from health to meditation to thoughts and scriptures. It is versatile. I can add photos to supplement my written words for the day. I can use the different journals all on the same day. Its an awesome app! I even like the quotes they provide to encourage me to keep adding to my journaling. BTW they send me a daily reminder to keep writing!

I found myself thinking over and over again of a feature that would make this great app even better, and then would immediately find that feature already built in and functioning wonderfully. Very well-built app with a HUGE future.

Not so much a redesign as a series of refinements. Without breaking anything that made the app work before, they added more integrations with social media, ability to add more than one photo to an entry and some other interface updates.

Im an avid journaler and Ive been using this app for over five years and it just keeps getting better and better. I love the integration of music, weather, photos, etc. in my entries. The only thing Id change are the sound alerts that sound cold and mechanic.

Im enjoying Day One very much. Everything works as advertised. Knowing I can search on dates and data is great. I will be happier when we get end to end encryption and Ill start using it even more.

This is bad none the best online journal / diary app. I likely am not even using it to its full potential. I highly recommend.

Wonderful easy to use app. I have been wanting to write in a journal for sometime but just didnt make it happen and I dont enjoy writing. This app has been great. Ive made an entry everyday for 2 weeks straight and Im really enjoying it. Adding pics is so helpful and easy to do. I would highly recommend the app. Best $5 Ive spent in a long time!

I used to use Pages on the desktop. Day One is designed for journaling and it shows. Easily include pictures, location, tags, etc. Way better than using Pages or Word for journaling.

I use this app to take pictures of safety deficiencies on project sites. Creating notebooks allows me to take a picture, add my notes via voice to text, time and date stamps the photo, and email the report out in PDF. I highly recommend this app.

Day One has been a tremendous tool for my productivity toolkit. Combined with TextExpander, Day One has brought a new sense of focus and progress to my life. Multiple journals and Markdown support has really made this app a daily essential for me. The only thing missing is the publish feature from the previous version. Still, its the best out there. Get it!

Simply love it!

Ive been using Day One nearly 3 years. Im not an every day journaler, but I try to hit special things. The ability to add several pics is a huge bonus here. We all take tons of pics that we never look at. With Day One, I add a few to my entry and get reminded every year. I regret not starting a journal long ago, but I think Ill have no problem staying with the practice the rest of my life!

Using Day One is easy, fast and perfect for my journaling needs!

I use this to journal progress on craft projects like my stitching and knitting. On occasion I add things about family that I wouldnt consider private and for those things this is a nice, easy to use app. Due to the lack of encryption I wouldnt think of adding anything private to this app.

Its an awesome app on which I can record my moments. This may be a very powerful tool to track your progress in learning or whatever other thing. I think that maintain your journal is essential to make smart decisions in everyday life. Adicionally, the development team gives a nice support.

The app is very cool, because I can write my thoughts and other thinks. Really good and necessary for me.
