Day One Journal: Private Diary App Reviews

Best Journal!

I love this app. Very easy to use and love that pics can be incorporated into the text.

Nice in theory

Has worked well. As it adds features, in the too frequent updates, its getting slower to load. Sync is always slowish.

Fantastic app!

I have been using the app for both my iPhone and my Mac laptop, since the beginning of this past June. This app has been what Ive always wanted in a journal, and more. I especially love looking at all my captured memories on the map feature. Day One truly succeeds in feeling like an organized, personal space for your mind. I highly recommend this app. The new premium subscription sounds nice, but Im probably going to consider it more later on. I have a Plus account, and Ive been perfectly happy with the features included. The current premium features just dont quite win me over. However, Im probably going to consider it more when future exclusive features arrive, such as audio/video entries.

premium required for sync with Mac

premium subscription required now if you want to sync with Mac. no bueno

This app is awesome

I love the dayone app ever since the 1.0 version I started using for my dream that I can remember but now with version 2.0 I can write daily and still write about my dream in a different file, and I trust this app and it easy for me to use then the other journal app, with having autism and using this app every to write how my day went help me a lot to write my problems way. Im giving a 5 star.

Getting too bloated for its own good?

Been a Day One user for 5+ years, a little less than 2000 entries but only 90 or so photos, so predominantly text. When opening the application, especially with TouchID security setting enabled, the app takes some time to open up and typically opens up in a window or view I was not last in so it takes some additional time to get back to what I was doing such as editing an entry. Im not a fan of this and it makes entry editing tedious because it requires some unnecessary additional tapping to get back to the entry editing view that I was in before locking the device or swapping to another app.

Day Timer replacement

I used Day Timers for 40 years. Then for six months I used both. Finally I cut the cord and now use Day One to record all my activities. I love the search function allowing me to look up anything or any activity. Amazing how much better it is than my closet full of old Day Timers. Thank you Day One!!

Goodbye

Hope new procing works for you I like app but not at your price.

Crapware subscription joke app

The only asset this dev is interested in is user count & greed. Dev went first to voluntary member sign ups bc thats the only asset that matters to venture capitalists—user count. The app was private for your private thoughts & great then he went to ruining it more & not using a more secure iCloud. Youre just a $1 a day user now to dayone & not a person. Dev, why not use iCloud or our own WebDAV? This dev ran out of innovations so went to wanting to store your private thoughts on his computer aka cloud. Good luck w this privacy-invading non-innovative business model. Now wants to charge you $1/week so he can release updates for nothing & pay for a storage feature you didnt need.

Subscription model? No thanks.

I really like this app, but the new subscription model is terrible. Give me a one-time option to pay you the five bucks previously required to use the apps premium features and you can have my money. Not having that option forces me to cough up a ton of dough just to get my iPhone & iPad to sync with each other. Come on guys, thats just ridiculous.

Best Journaling App On Any Platform!

Thank you so much for building an app with a clean interface that is a pleasure to use. I love sitting down and writing with a fountain pen and good journal but the reason I use Day One is that it allows me to add pictures of my family and places we visit to my journal, so it adds a new demension to my journaling. It is so fun to look back and see the journey we are on. Day One also allows me to easily order high quality books to have a physical copy of my journal. This makes it a pleaseure to share with family and friends if I want. Now to address the new subscription model. I know there are people who are upset about the new subscription model. We were informed by Day One that if we already purchased Day One 2.0 we would keep all the features we have at no additional cost. As for the premium service. I completely understand that companies are people and they need to make enough money to provide for their families and pay employees enough to support themsevels and their families, and add new features and keep apps updated. I enjoy getting paid for my work and even though we hear complaints from people, I’m sure they enjoy getting paid for their hard work as well. I’m afraid that in the future we will have iPhones, iPads and Macs with just apps created by Apple and app stores that have nothing more poor quality free games with in app purchases (for coins) and good apps that die quickly because developers have no money or insentive to update them. I’m hoping my prediction will not come true and thet we have great productivity apps for years to come

Best Journaling App around...

I have been using DayOne since the original launch. Its just a fantastic app. From the design, to the well thought out useful features its a joy to use. I cant recommend it highly enough. Yes, they changed their model. They have to, they need to stay in business. If you love an App you need to pay so that the developers can continue to work on it. Already too many innovative apps have become abandonware because people were unwilling to pay to keep them going. Too many brilliant IOS developers have packed up and moved on from the platform.

fixed

Fixed. Thanks.

Best diary in AppStore, markdown Futures, music, steps, photo, and good view

Dont entrust your data with them

There are tons of other apps there that will provide better privacy options by storing data on users iCloud account.

Journal lost with 2.0

Shame on you for releasing a product that could - and did - cause me and many others to lose their journals. And all you can do about it is say how embarrassed you are and send me to a troubleshooting link that doesnt help at all? Pathetic how you treat the customers who supported you before 2.0.

Great Journaling

Have used this for months and keep finding new uses. Nice interface and solid data protection. —Dropped a couple of stars due to new pricing model. Paid a lot for the apps and its frustrating when IAP gets jammed in later. — Also, this app takes up tons of space for text. Fills the phone up with nearly a gig of data and I have almost no images.

Great journal that gives helpful details

I use this everyday.i love the ease of adding pictures and text. I used to have the entry level Day One but expanded to full version!

Pretty good journal, not a fan of subscription service though

Ive been happy with this app for half a year now, well designed and good feature set. I really hate the idea of a subscription service, though. If I hadnt already been a customer before this change and been able to keep my sync feature I wouldnt have bothered with it.

Pretty much the best app for journaling

Not sure what the whole Premium thing will do, but Day One 2.0 at least meets my needs for work, family, and personal. Its the tool I use to capture ideas and thoughts. It currently displaced Evernote, although I may revisit Evernote since it seems everybody else uses it for capturing thoughts and information. But I like the idea of a persistent journal where I can lay out my thoughts and they are time stamped and organized by time and with tags.
