Day One Journal: Private Diary App Reviews

Ruined when iCloud and Dropbox got removed

I used to use this all all the time. Then the iCloud sync got removed and replaced with their own sync service that they charge for. I have already paid for a previous version and feel that Im getting ripped off now. The developer blames Dropbox and iCloud for not supporting end-to-end encryption. But thats twisting the truth. End-to-end encryption happens on the client. The cloud isnt involved in that process, more than being used as a way to transfer the data. Their reasoning for removing iCloud and Dropbox has nothing to do with security and everything to do with monetizing the app differently. Instead of charging a one time fee for purchase they now want people to subscribe. From a business side I understand this choice. Unfortunately I feel that their app isnt one of those essential apps that most people want to subscribe to. And from a customer whos already paid for a previous version and am now getting lied to by the dev, I cant feel anything else than that this is a ripoff.

I miss the old dayone

This one has a few too many moving parts.

Enjoying this app

I really like journaling with this app. I like the fact that it is device sharing, that I can work on it wth my iPad and continue with my iPhone or vice versa, without having to start a new entry. I also like being able to post photos, I just wish that I could post more than 10 per entry. I havent ordered a book yet, but intend to at some point.

Poor decision and will not be subscribing

Dont want your home brew sync and dont want yet another subscription service.

Great app!

Definitely the app I will always use to journal! Simple yet spectacular design and features.

Best journaling app!

The platform of Day One is intuitive, easy, and capable. I came to it when my dad died and I needed a place to write down my sadness and thoughts. A year later and I realize that now I need to lose 40 lbs, so Ive turned to it once again as a food journal. Its awesome to be able to have several journals going at once! Thank you for an awesome app!

Great app that just works

Use it every day. Helps me keep track of important things in my life.

Ruined. Money One.

Money oriented. The company never cares old customers. Ruined old app and old customers. It updates so frequently to hide bad reviews nowadays after changing into subscription model and removing old functions. Watch out to buy this app.

Nearly 50€ per year? Never!!

I have no problem with anual subscription models, as long as they represent the value of the app. Nearly 50€ for this app per year is just exorbitant and crazy. Find a reasonable price and you will have me as a paying subscription customer because I like your app. For 50€... never. You do your competitors a great favour.

Wonderful daily journal

Ive been using Day One for more than three years. Ive found it to be reliable, smart, and extremely well designed.

THE Best Journal App

A MUST HAVE for Contemplative Living in the 21st century!

Best Journal App Ever

I use this everyday. I enjoy it the more I use it. I recommend it to anyone.

Love this app

Have been using it for several years now. It just keeps getting better.

Loving Day One Except....

Ive been a long time user of Day One. I sing its praise. BUT seriously how long does it take to fix the Activity Feed. Its been at least 4 months since it went down and all I keep hearing is it will be fixed soon. That is my only single complaint about this GREAT app.

Marvellous, possibly flawless

I dont often do five star reviews, but I honestly cant think of any complaints. Ive been using this app regularly for years. Its value is immeasurable. Im able to take entire piles of concerns and safely dump them into tagged journal entries for later reflection. The mere act of writing thoughts down is both therapeutic and productive, because it frees my mind to pursue other matters in the moment without sacrificing a valuable inspiration or revelation. Its also immensely valuable for self improvement through introspection, and building personal wisdom over time.

Way to ruin a good thing

This app is awesome and I guess if you dont mind paying the subscription go for it. But the last version had a perfectly functional Dropbox sync and they took that away in favor of this subscription crap.

Five years and counting.

I have had Day One for more than 5 years. Have hardly missed a day making a journal entry in all that time. I have loved the way it has improved over those 5 years. I like that I can have it on my phone and iPad and how quickly they sync. The access to the pictures is so convenient and fast, and add them to nearly every journal entry. Thanks Day One!

No iCloud, bad subscription

Still no iCloud, but now with a subscription. Cool. Edit: Bloom Built responded to this indicating they have no plans to support iCloud. Exactly, hence the 1 star rating.

Keeps getting better and better

Love this app! Keep upgrading, improving and now print books! Love exploring, searching, tagging, several journals ... The best journal photo app!

This is the only journal I have written in for more than a day or two!

Thanks Day One for making journaling so easy. Somedays I just put in a picture with a caption. Other days I write several paragraphs. This fits my life style!
